When I started working with Gary, interviews were probably my biggest weakness. I knew I could do the jobs I was applying for; I just wasn’t particularly good at convincing the person sitting across the table. Gary changed that.

We did a lot of interview role-play and preparation, but he also understood that confidence doesn’t come from memorising scripted answers. It comes from properly understanding your own value and being comfortable articulating it.

Before one particularly important interview, Gary told me to call him from the car park. What followed was essentially a pre-fight fire-up: a final reminder of why I was there, why they wanted to meet me and why I was every bit as entitled to be interviewing them as they were to be interviewing me.

I walked into that meeting feeling about six inches taller. That’s Gary’s approach in a nutshell. He gives you the practical tools, but also makes sure you’re in the right frame of mind to use them.
