There is no standard Outplace programme. What we do, how we do it and where we focus depends entirely on the individual – their circumstances, experience, ambitions and objectives.
Just as importantly, we’ll help bring clarity, confidence and perspective to what can be an unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable, period in someone’s career.
What we’ll work on:
1. Understanding where you are — and where you’re going
- We start with you: your career to date, successes, strengths, weaknesses, motivations and ambitions. We’ll look objectively at where you sit in the current market, what you want from the next stage of your career and, importantly, what you don’t.
- From there, we’ll develop clear short and longer-term objectives, and a realistic strategy for achieving them.
2. Positioning you properly
- Before you can take yourself to market, you need to know exactly what you’re taking to market. We’ll define your proposition: what you offer, what differentiates you, where you add value and how to articulate it confidently.
- That positioning becomes the foundation for everything that follows.
3. Getting you market-ready
- We’ll review, refine or rebuild the tools you need to take that proposition to market — CV, LinkedIn, covering approaches, digital footprint and wider personal brand.
- Not simply to make them look better, but to make sure they tell the right story to the right audience.
4. Taking you to market
- There is far more to an executive search than applying for advertised jobs. We’ll develop a practical approach to the whole market; executive search firms, your own network, direct approaches, advertised opportunities, LinkedIn and the less visible routes through which many senior appointments are actually made.
- And, as headhunters ourselves, we’ll show you how to approach executive search firms properly: how to get their attention, how to build the relationship and how to avoid the mistakes we see candidates make every day.
5. Interviewing and presenting yourself
- We’ll prepare properly for interviews, from the obvious questions to the difficult ones, working on content, delivery, confidence and the ability to communicate your value naturally rather than sounding rehearsed.
- We’ll also work through the nuances of different interview environments; headhunter, CEO/Board, HR, investor, and how your approach should adapt to each.
6. Managing the process
- We’ll also be there as opportunities develop: interpreting feedback, deciding what to pursue, managing processes and, when the right opportunity arrives, handling the offer and negotiation.
And everything that happens in between.
- Career searches rarely follow a neat programme. An unexpected approach arrives. An interview doesn’t go as expected. Two opportunities appear at once. A headhunter says something you’re not quite sure how to interpret. Or you simply want to ask, ‘What would you do?’
- That’s why the support doesn’t stop at scheduled meetings. Throughout the process, you have access to experienced, practical advice when you need it.
No two careers are the same. No two searches are the same. So no two Outplace programmes are the same either.
The objective is simply to put you in the strongest possible position to make the right next move.
